Exercise: A Typographic Jigsaw puzzle

The Brief

My first thoughts of this brief was that it seemed quite simple! I was wrong though! It took me several hours to complete! The way I look at fonts now has also completely changed! I knew that designing typefaces was a complex thing and I knew about the different parts of the type (anatomy of type) but I never knew typefaces were disassembled into the different sections to then create the letters as a whole.

This was my final finished outcome for this exercise which I think is correct…

I started out by measuring a baseline by using a, e and o as a measuring guide. I sat them on the baseline and then drew the X-height line above them and Cap height. I was then able to measure out the ascender and descender lines.
